Alliance2015 division of labour in Sindh, Pakistan

4 oktober, 2011

New floods are affecting five million people in the province of Sindh, Pakistan. Ca. 1.2 million houses have been damaged or destroyed. More than 220,000 people have lost everything and are living in encampments.

Due to the well-established cooperation among Alliance2015 members after last year’s record floods, it has been easy to act quickly together. "Our shared approach within Alliance2015 is proving its worth in this emergency too. There is a clear division of labour, which accelerates the help that we can provide on location. We procure the relief items, and the other organisations utilise their local presence for the distribution" says Achim Apweiler, Welthungerhilfe’s Regional Coordinator in Pakistan.

Welthungerhilfe will provide 10,000 tarpaulins and 5,000 hygiene kits containing buckets, soap, mosquito nets and pots and pans. ACTED and Concern will start the distribution of these during the coming week. Later, People in Need and Cesvi will join the distribution of the material. These four Alliance2015 members have access to competent local staff in Sindh and are taking charge of distribution in the affected areas.

Hivos and Alliance2015 Hivos is part of the  Alliance2015, a strategic partnership of seven European development NGOs working together to play their part in reaching the Millennium Development Goals. Alliance2015 cooperates at the programme level in developing countries and at the policy level in Europe. For the past seven years, a key focus of that policy work has been Europe’s development policies.
