Partner in focus (Overview)
BROSDI
Imagine that you are a farmer in Uganda. Your years of experience in the fields have given you a treasure trove of farming knowledge. Other farmers would be more than happy to have that knowledge. The other way round is also true: they are sure to have tips that could come in handy for you. But how do you get in touch with them? Through the Busoga Rural Open Source and Development Initiative (BROSDI).
CONIC
Everyone knows them, even if mainly from history books: the Maya. They were once a mighty people who built impressive architectural structures. Less is known about the present-day Mayan people, let alone their struggle against marginalisation, discrimination and loss of cultural identity. The Coordinadora Nacional Indígena y Campesina (CONIC) is one of the leaders in this struggle.
Católicas por el Derechos a Decidir
The Catholic Church is powerful in Bolivia, extremely powerful. Teresa Lanza, coordinator for the feminist Católicas por el Derecho a Decidir, is well aware of this.
Coolpolitics
Do you think Dutch young people are uninvolved in international issues and politics? That is nonsense, according to Coolpolitics. It is just a question of how they are presented.
ECOM / SMS
If you order a cup of coffee, you mainly want it to taste good. In the international market, however, more requirements are set. Are there good working conditions at the coffee plantations? Is production environmentally friendly? With the support of Hivos and coffee trader ECOM / SMS, small coffee farmers in Kenya receive training to be able to meet these requirements.
ENSS / Astha Sansthan
In the Netherlands widows and divorcees are comforted or simply left in peace. But in the Indian state of Rajasthan women are discriminated against, affronted and mistreated if their husbands die or break off the relationship. No longer having a husband is reason enough in this patriarchal region for a woman to be socially excluded.
Gender Links
When you turn on a television or radio in southern Africa, you will notice that women hardly have a voice in the media. In politics they are also a small minority. Consequently, their perspective and experiences are structurally underexposed, which does not at all contribute to the goal of a region in which men and women have equal opportunities. Gender Links wishes to change this.
Imp-Act
For many people in developing countries, owning their own business is the way to escape poverty. Yet many do not have the collateral to be able to get the necessary start-up loans from a normal bank. That is why the development sector is seeing an increase in the number of institutions that provide small loans (microcredit) with no collateral requirement. This makes an impact, but there is always room for improvement.
Kloop Media Foundation
They are still young people, the reporters and bloggers of the Kloop website. But in just two years, co-founder and director Bektour Iskender, only 22 himself, has created one of the most popular websites for bloggers in Kyrgyzstan. Together with his colleagues, he sets out daily to make reports about the news in this Central Asian country. In the meantime, hundreds of bloggers have already registered with the website.
