Colectivo Unidad Color Rosa

Since the 8th of April 2010, the 'Colectivo Unidad Color Rosa' has been recognized as a legally constituted organization under the Honduran law. However, for almost 10 years the group has been active under the name 'Colectivo TTT´ (Travesties, Transgender y Transsexual), in defense of the interests of Trans people in San Pedro Sula.

The Collective provides a safe space for travesties, transgender and transsexual people that work, or not, as sexworkers, and where they can freely express themselves. They fight for access to comprehensive care and education, taking into account the high prevalence and incidence of HIV in their population. They defend their human rights, documenting, pressing charges and following up on cases of violations, harassment and any act against the physical, moral and psychological integrity of the Trans population. This is a difficult and dangerous task in Honduras, which is catalogued as one of the most violent countries in Latin America (and the world) towards LGBT people. Only in the last year, 16 Trans girls have been assassinated in the country.

The Collective is member of the Latin-American and Caribbean Network of Trans (Redlactrans) and of the Honduran Network of Trans (REDTRANSHONDURENA). The Collective has gained important spaces, being invited to the Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in 2008 (Colombia) and 2009 (Honduras) and as part of the Honduran Delegation to UNGASS.

Description:
In the upcoming 3 years, the Colectivo Unidad Color Rosa will strive for the better recognition of human rights claims of Trans people in Honduras, working on the following areas:

1. Strengthening the advocacy and watchdog capacities of 150 Trans leaders, promoting a culture of denouncements of human rights violations, pushing for the recognition of their gender identity as integral part of their citizenship, and participating in public manifestations (like the Gay pride and celebration of World Aids Day).

2. Lobbying and seeking support from 120 representatives of public institutions and national authorities, in order for them to understand the situation of Trans in Honduras and to support a pre-proposal for a law to promote, protect and defend human rights of Trans people in the country.

3. Diminishing the impunity of hate crimes, providing legal advice and following up of at least 10 claims made by Trans people reached by the project, in the tribunals of justice.

4. Knowing more about the situations of stigma and discrimination faced by Trans people in Honduras, elaborating a qualitative and a quantitative study about the violations of human rights of Transpeople in Honduras.

5. Creating and strengthening organizational capacities of 6 groups of Trans (aprox. 60 persons) in the most populated municipalities of Cortes.

6. Positioning the organization strategically in the country

Through the project 210 Transleaders will be reached. Furthermore, the project will reach out to 5370 people of the general population and decision makers, and 3600 clients and partners of Trans.
