Every summer students and activists from Indonesia, India, Uganda, the Netherlands and (for the first time) South Africa discuss issues around tolerance and pluralism in the Pluralism Summer School. The 2011 edition just started this week in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
The resolution on human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity, passed by United Nations Human Rights Council last week, is a groundbreaking achievement for upholding the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). It is the first UN resolution ever to bring specific focus to human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Today (14 June 2011) the magazine Synergy will be presented to the Dutch Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ben Knapen. This single issue magazine shows how science contributes to sustainable development. It also illustrates that scientific research of this kind is highly challenging and deeply rewarding.
