The Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) is an apolitical, and non-confessional international relief agency created in Afghanistan in 1993. The first projects were initiated in Kabul to bring relief to populations affected by more than 15 years of conflict. ACTED activities then rapidly expanded to the entire country and subsequently to other countries. Today, ACTED is active in 23 countries and develops about 150 projects a year in such diversified activities as among others Emergency Relief, Food Security, Health Promotion Network, Economic Development, and Micro finance. The headquarters for the organization are located in Paris (France). ACTED launched its mission in Nicaragua in 1998, with an emergency response to the devastating impact of Hurricane Mitch. Since then, ACTED has implemented projects in food security, economic development, WATSAN post- emergency assistance; conflict prevention, and the reinforcement of local capacity in preparation and response to natural disasters.

Description:
NI066S01 - Food Chain Security and local governability for agricultural-forest management in Waspam, Nicaragua

ACTED seeks to promote a territorial classification together with sustainable productive practices through the joint definition of an inter-communitary plan of agricultural-forest use and its implementation in two indigenous territories in the municipality of Waspam, in the reserve area of the Bosawás Biosphere. The indigenous territories to work will be Li Lamni, Tasbaika Kum and Kipla Sait Tasbaika. ATED proposes this project as a co-financed two year program that is being implemented in Waspam, thanks to the support of the European Commission. It hopes to benefit 600 poor producers and their families, representing 3600 people in 15 communities, vulnerable in terms of food security. This project is supported in the frame of Alliance 2015, of which Hivos and ACTED are members.
