| CU023S07 - Sustainable Animal Farms Based on the Use of Renewable Energy Technologies in South East Cuba The proposal focuses on the use of renewable energy technology in animal husbandry areas or farms. Specifically, the project foresees: diagnosis of the energy balance in fifteen models of animal farms (milk production, breeding, pig, birds and small animals), of private producers and co-operatives; and based on these balances, the installation of different renewable energy technologies, wind, photovoltaic, biogas and other variants that permit energy self-sufficiency for these productions and the different farm diversification forms that, in addition, contribute to the energetic and economic sustainability, and in doing so provide the possibility of new and improved work opportunities, specifically for women. With the implementation of this proposal it is hoped to support the development of the agriculture and animal husbandry sector in the South Eastern provinces of Cuba, with the participation of all actors, and to support the search of new productive models based on the positive processes of the energy programme developed in the country. The proposal in this programme takes a few experiences from renewable energy projects developed in the province of Santiago de Cuba, lead by the "Centro de Investigaciones de Energía Solar" (Research Centre of Solar Energy), the MINAG (Ministry of Agriculture), and in the provinces Holgún and Las Tunas by ACPA, CITMA,CUBASOLAR and others. For this project, Hivos will subscribe the contract with ACPA, in alliance with CUBASOLAR, another Hivos partner, much more specialized in the promotion of renewable energies. |
