ASONVIHSIDA - Asociación Nicaraguense de Personas que viven con HIV/AIDS - Managua
NI046A No tiene
ASONVIHSIDA, Nicaraguan Association of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS, is made up of different groups of persons who had been organized as Positive People Network (Red de Gente Positiva) and who decided to legally come together and struggle for their rights. They were constituted in the year 2000, and at present, are awaiting their legal status.
The organization's main objective is to create alternatives for the social development and revindication of the persons in Nicaragua who have been affected by AIDS, through different working areas, such as: promote actions before the Government to obtain integral attention, permanent psycho-social support for its members, creation of support groups, and coordination with other institutions working in this area. Thirteen people, who in turn elect six board members to complete the Counselling Board of the Association, constitute ASONVIHSIDA's Assembly. Said Board also supports the issues of strategic planning and follow up of different faces of the project's execution. The organization has a Coordinator who is also the President of the organization. Considering that they still do not have their legal status ready, they require greater experience in the administrative and organizational management, they decided to seek the protection of CEPRESI, an organization with similar goals and objectives, which is legally constituted and has agreed to provide administrative assistance to ASONVIHSIDA. It is worthy to note that CEPRESI is one of Hivos' counterparts and that received support in the promotion and defence of human rights of sexual minorities in Nicaragua.
This link seems to be of great benefit for both organizations; for CEPRESI because directly or indirectly, it has strengthen its strategic alliances and projections in this relevant issue of human rights; and for ASONVIHSIDA because it gives them the opportunity to strengthen and grow in these first years of programmatic, operative and institutional consolidation.

| NI046A04 - Reinforced Answer to the Promotion and defense of human rights of the PVVS in Nicaragua. According to PNUD, index of Human Development 2006, Nicaragua is in the 37 position as one of the poorest countries of the world. Regarding to the available statistics, since 1987 it was identified the first HIV/AIDS case in the country. This has been an ascending epidemic and has reached its highest point in 2005. Altogether, according to MINSA, to date, 2159 seropositive cases have been reported, of which 609 have passed away. ASONVIHSIDA is the only organization of PVVS in Nicaragua that contributes to reduce this epidemic, with prevention strategies, political incidence, and integral attention of the PVVS. The new proposal agrees with Hivos policy, because it contributes to the advances and social innovation of the PVVS as subject actors of their development, and therefore, they have participated in the project since their elaboration, and will continue in all the stages of the execution project. For this new proposal, ASONVIHSIDA looks forward to give continuity to the processes and to reinforce the areas in which it has been positioned, reason why it has defined the following objectives: 1. To strength the inter-sector coordination of ASONVIHSIDA at central and local level, with the branches and other working networks or alliances. 2. To promote human rights, as HIV prevention tools, guaranteeing the no discrimination towards the PVVS and seeing them as important elements for of social behavior change. 3. To provide with capacities to women living with HIV/AIDS, and to create opportunities to them, to make significant their participation in policies of national, local and regional answer to the epidemic. With these three objectives, a new stage will begin in which the gender approach is placed like a new challenge for the organization. |
