Stimulating the emergence of rural entrepreneurs in the domestic biogas sector. Mr. Peter Thuo is a mason by profession. He has been building houses for the last 20 years. He was initiated to domestic biogas technology during the first mason training organized by KENDBIP in mid-November 2009.
After the 12 day masons training Peter not only developed a passion for the biogas technology but also saw a big business potential in the construction of biogas plants. The demand for alternative energy sources in Peter’s home area is growing rapidly as forests and on-farm woodlots which have been the main sources of domestic energy get depleted. After the training Peter constructed a biogas plant for one of his neighbors in his Naivasha home area. This was the first plant in the District installed through the national domestic biogas programme. This plant elicited a lot of interest from other neighbors and even other farmers from far areas who closely followed its completion and commissioning.
