Ethiopian family shows Minister Knapen the power of biogas
During his three-day visit to Ethiopia, Ben Knapen, Minister for Development Cooperation in the Netherlands, visited the family of Ato Daadhii Baldaa and Yeshi Addisu to see their domestic biogas plant in use.
The family, living in Debre Zeit, are proud owners of one of the 1300 biogas plants constructed under the National Biogas Programme in Ethiopia. This is part of the Africa Biogas Partnership Program (ABPP) implemented by Hivos and SNV with support of the Dutch Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Minister Knapen was very interested in the well-being of the children and happy to see the effects. Thanks to the biogas they had light to study and improve their academic performance. He noted that the investment in biogas is effective because the payback period is short. He was delighted to see that the use of bioslurry for fertilizer was increasing incomes of farmers.
