Hivos director Manuela Monteiro second on the list most powerful women in charities sector

Hivos director Manuela Monteiro is elected second on the list of the most powerful women in the charities sector in the Netherlands. This news was announced during the presentation of the Top 100 of most powerful women in The Netherlands by the famous dutch women’s magazine Opzij. This ranking was awarded because of Manuela Monteiro’s 'leadership role in the field of women's rights'. The first spot in the Top 100 is occupied by the president of the dutch trade union FNV, Agnes Jongerius.

This list contains the 100 most powerful women in the Netherlands, divided into ten sectors. Adriana Esmeijer (1966), director of the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund, occupies the first spot in the charities sector. Second is Manuela Monteiro (1950). Since 2002 director of development organization Hivos, the Humanist Institute for Development Cooperation.

Monteiro is also a member of the board of WOTRO (research in developing business of NWO), member of the advisory board of MDF Training & Consultancy, member of the North-South Committee for the Labor Party. The Portuguese-born Monteiro studied English and German in Lisbon and graduated in non-Western sociology at the Free University ( Vrije Universiteit) in Amsterdam.

Edith Snoey
Edith Snoey (1956), member of the Supervisory Board of Hivos, is represented in the Top 100 of Opzij as well. She occupies the fifth place in the Public Administration sector. Since January 2005 Snoey is the first female president of the FNV AbvaKabo, which has over 350,000 members. Snoey represents the FNV in the SER and is on the board of the PSI (the international union of the public sector).
