Hivos-partner Yanar Mohammed wins Women's Rights Prize
20 August 2008 - Yanar Mohammed is one of three courageous activists to have won this year's Gruber International Women's Rights Prize for Advancing Gender Equality. She is praised for her activism for women's rights in Iraq. Yanar Mohammed is the founder and director of Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq, an Hivos-partnerorganization which promotes a secular and egalitarian society that is free from violence and where human rights are enjoyed by all.

15 August 2008 - This year Hivos celebrated her 40th birthday on Thursday 19 June with an event in the Convention Factory in Amsterdam. More than 500 Hivos relations enjoyed an afternoon and evening full of debates, music and theater. UN appoints Frank La Rue as Freedom of Expression Rapporteur
30 June 2008 - After some last-minute consultation, a very angry-looking Egyptian and a statement by Uruguay strongly supporting his candicacy, Frank La Rue was elected as the new UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression. Hivos believes this is a good choice. La Rue is a strong believer in human rights and freedom of expression and he will have the wherewithal to interpret his new mandate wisely.
