Hivos-activities on National AIDS Day 2008
Worldwide 33 million people are living with HIV, the majority of whom are living in developing countries. South Africa has the largest number of people with HIV (5.5 million). Nearly 70% of the people with HIV have no access to medicines, which led to nearly 2 million deaths in 2007. People with HIV are also often victims of discrimination and stigma. On 1 December the AIDS Day will be held around the world to show solidarity with people living with HIV.
