Private fundraisers
A large part of the private funds that Hivos receives comes from donations from other private organisations and from partnerships with third parties and the business sector. Hivos also receives income from the aid of a loyal nucleus of regular donors and volunteers. In 2010, Hivos received a total of 1.4 million euros worth of private donations.
In 2010, the donations from private organisations contributed over 4 million euros to the funding for specific activities of Hivos partner organisations. Stop Aids Now!, which Hivos founded with Cordaid, ICCO, the Dutch AIDS Fund and Oxfam Novib, deserves special mention. In 2010, SAN! gave Hivos over 715.000 euros for 21 partner organisations.
More and more companies are displaying an interest in the areas where Hivos operates. They are willing to assist in development projects, as part of their policy of corporate social responsibility. During the past years, besides the longstanding partnership with Triodos Bank, Hivos has worked with ABN Foundation and ICT firms, particularly KPN and LogicaCMG. Several companies now also compensate for their CO2 emissions through the Hivos Climate Fund. In 2010, Hivos received a total of 763,000 euros from companies.
In 2010, Hivos received donations to the amount of 632.000 euros from private donors and volunteer groups working for Hivos. In 2010 the North-South Savings experienced significant growth. The number of savings accounts rose from 7.800 to 8.400; the total savings in the North-South Savings rose from 80 to 89.7 million euros.
