Expenditure
Of the total budget of 75.2 million euros, 73.7 million euros was allocated to partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In all, 833 partner organisations received aid from Hivos in 2010. They were the principal actors in the implementation of the policy priorities of the Hivos programme. In 2010, Hivos and its partner organisations reached over 13 million people and their families.
Percentage of the budget by activity
The allocation of the available budget is broken down into the nine areas of activity (or sectors) that Hivos uses. In 2010, Hivos spent 20 percent of its budget on partner organisations and initiatives for sustainable production. This is followed by organisations and initiatives for human rights and democracy (17 percent), financial services (14 percent), gender, women and development (10 percent) and ICT and media (6 percent).
Percentage of the budget by region
No less than 32 percent of the Hivos budget goes to partner organisations in Latin America. In 2010, Hivos supported 184 partners in that region. Partner organisations in Asia/Southeast Europe received 23 percent of the budget. In Africa 54 precent of the budget. Hivos supported 239 organisations in Africa in 2010, in Asia and Southeast Europe it aided a total of 254 organisations. Hivos supported 123 partner organisations operating globally, using 13 percent of its total budget. Finally, 24 partners in the Netherlands received a total of 4 percent.
Percentage of the budget by policy co-financing system
Hivos structurally targets the following three issues: direct poverty alleviation, advancement of societies and influencing policy. In 2010, Hivos spent a total of 32 percent of its budget on direct poverty alleviation, 38 percent on advancement of societies and 30 percent on influencing policy.
