Winner of the Energy for Life Best Practice Award 2011
The National Biodigester Programme in Cambodia, won the first prize in the election of Energy For Life Best Practice Award 2011. This joint programme between the Cambodia Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) is supported through the Hivos Climate Fund.
Each participant had to be a not for profit organization with a project in one of the five target countries: Cambodia, Lao PDR., Tanzania, Brazil and Bolivia. In all, 18 organizations participated in the competition, of which, two had to be eliminated for technical reasons. The qualified 16 projects were then evaluated based on the Evaluation Chart and allocated points for each of the award criteria.
Based on the scores allocated to each project, the following winners were announced:
1st prize of 1,000 EUR to the National Biodigester Programme (NBP): Biodigester dissemination, Cambodia.
2nd prize of 500 EUR to KarEn e.V. Germany: Improvement of quality of life of the indigenous population by improving water supply on base of renewable energies in Bolivia.
3rd prize of 500 EUR to Tanzania Renewable Energy Association: Generator zero, Tanzania.
All three prize winners will be officially announced at the Energy for Life international conference: “Bridge to the Future: The Power and Promise of Renewables to bridge the gap between rich and poor” to be held in Madrid on 15 -16 of March 2012.
Energy for Life is an awareness raising three year initiative that aims to convince stakeholders and the public at large that making a commitment to Renewable Energies (REs) is an investment in the future of Europe and Developing Countries (DCs).
The project is implemented by a network of several partners from 9 different countries. So, Istituto Oikos (Italy), DGS (Germany), Oikos (Portugal) and Ecodes (Spain) are responsible of the national coordination and actively collaborate in all phases of the action. The partner promotors are Terre Solidali Onlus (Italy) and Nature Trust (Malta). The Local partners of the initiative are Oikos East Africa (Tanzania), Pangea (Brazil), COMPED (Cambodia) and CDEA (Laos) and are responsible for organising workshops to collect information on local projects based on the use of REs technologies. The University of Insubria (Italy), University of Applied Sciences of Berlin and Ecologic (Germany) constitute the Scientific Board of the platform for the scientific supervision and technical support to the action.
