Hivos main sponsor of the World Outgames
Tournaments in 38 different sports disciplines, cultural events and a human rights conference addressing issues and concerns of the LGBT community. You’ll find it all at the 2nd World Outgames in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 25 July to 2 August 2009. Hivos is main sponsor of the World Outgames 2009.
Maybe an unusual combination, because what does a NGO on a sporting event for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender? It’s actually not surprising, because an important part of the World Outgames is the international LGBT human rights conference. The conference is from July 27-29 and thanks to the contribution of Hivos, 25 LGBT partner organizations from developing countries come to Copenhagen to present their work to and share it with the 500 participants in the conference. This is an important pillar in the Hivos gay-empowerment program. With the participation in the conference the partner organizations strengthen their organizations by acquiring new knowledge and ideas for new activities in their countries or their work. In addition, Hivos also organises five workshops with different themes to bring the gay-empowerment program to the attention of the conference attendants.
The World Outgames 2009 aims to create an event based on the belief that cultural diversity is a condition for innovation, which is a condition for value creation in society – economically, socially, and culturally.
