Kazakhstani Human Rights Defender Yevgeni Zhovtis convicted for manslaughter. Hivos calls for fair trial.

Yevgeni Zhovtis, director of the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law (KIBHR), was convicted for vehicular manslaughter on September 4th 2009. He was sentenced to four years of imprisonment. Yevgeni Zhovtis was involved in a fatal car accident on July 26th 2009, where one person was killed.

Africa Biogas Partnership Programme

The Africa Biogas Partnership Programme (ABPP) comprises a partnership between Hivos and SNV in supporting national programmes on domestic biogas in six African countries. The Programme aims at constructing 70,000 biogas plants in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Senegal and Burkina Faso providing about half a million people access to a sustainable source of energy by the year 2013.
'What is Fair?'
On World Fair Trade Day on the 9th of May a short film ‘What is Fair?’ was released by International Resources Fair Trade (IRFT). It was funded Hivos. The film was screened in 25 screens of Cinemax and PVR, in Mumbai and Thane district, India.
