Centre for the Development of people (CEDEP)
CEDEP was founded in 2005 as an organisation that fights for the rights of sexual minorities in Malawi. The organisation was first given a microfund by Hivos in 2006 which helped the organisation to build its capacity in its formative stages. The organisation seeks to advance the human and health rights of sexual and other minorities through civic education, training, advocacy, capacity building, networking, research and other strategies. The organisation targets sexual and other minorities in a country that is deeply homophobic. Hivos supports CEDEP because it is the first organisation in Malawi to target sexual minorities in its programming and this is in line with Hivos' policy of fighting for a society that does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.
