All over the world the spotlight is on the citizen. From Time magazine’s nomination of the protestor as person of the year to the enduring optimism around the ripples of the Arab spring: from Obama’s ‘yes we can’ to Cameron’s big society: citizenship seems to have become the new magic bullet. But will this new starring role for the citizen actuallly lead to solutions?
1 maart : Boeklancering van ‘Consent of the Networked’
Hivos en Xs4all organiseren op 1 maart de Europese lancering van Consent of the Networked - the worldwide struggle for Internet Freedom. Het boek van Rebecca MacKinnon roept op tot actie. Want volgens MacKinnon is het de hoogste tijd om op te houden over de vraag óf internet mensen bekrachtigt, en ons af te vragen hoe techniek ingezet moet worden om rechten en vrijheden van internetgebruikers wereldwijd te steunen.
